Not Just A Blonde's Thoughts on Sin...

Sin isn't about breaking the rules, it's about playing the wrong game. With sin, you will never truly win.

When you choose sin over Spirit you choose darkness over Light.

Sin separates us from God and from feeling His Love. God never stops loving His Creation, however in sin we are unable to feel His Love upon us. In sin we may doubt God, but He is always there waiting for us to turn towards Him again.

By settling for a life of sin we accept trash in place of treasure! Within sin's grasp we are missing out on the richness that a life in alignment with Him can offer!

Sin wants us to believe it can replace God, but sin is a cruel lie. Sin eventually leaves us feeling anxious and alone.

Sin is death, Spirit is Life.

Sin is a choice to live outside His Perfect Plan... choosing our will over His own. We have the ability to choose pain over Peace. God calls us to Peace, however gives us the freedom to choose.

My Big Fat Acceptable Sin...

Why is it that some sins are socially acceptable while other sins elicit shame and condemnation so great the "sinner" often feels unaccepted by their fellow Christians and unwelcome in the Church? And yet, there is a sin is so common, so obvious and destructive... yet rarely (if ever) "righteously judged" by those that feel called to hold others spiritually accountable!

This sin is so common that if those committing this sin were shunned from church, the attendance on Sunday morning would plummet by at least 2/3! This sin is externally fairly obvious to others as it often correlates with a change in girth. What is this sin? Why, it is the sin of gluttony!

I'm in no way condemning, judging, shaming those that struggle with the sin of gluttony as I struggle with the sin of overeating myself! I often find myself turning to food for comfort, entertainment and diversion when I should only be eating what I need, nothing more... nothing less. Overindulging, when instead of turning to God I turn to find my comfort in food instead.

Thankfully however, when I sin there are few in the church that make me feel less Christian because of my lifestyle and behavior. There are no picket lines protesting my favorite restaurants and buffets... and there are no laws working their way through congress to make sure I don't break this moral code!

Its not like us "sinners" can hide in the closet either... most people who have succumb to gluttony's temptation wear their sin on their body frames for all to see! It's not like we can forget it either... each time I get dressed, look in a mirror or step on a scale I am humbly reminded of how I too, have fallen short.

Why are so many of us Christians so quick to judge others as sinful and admonish our brothers and sisters yet we have this huge log in our own eye? Why is my sin socially acceptable even though it is clearly unbiblical and yet other people are literally kicked out of church for a "sin" that is not directly addressed by Jesus at all! If those who believe homosexuality is a sin were to be fair, no overweight or obese people should be allowed to take leadership roles in Fundamental Bible Churches who pride themselves in Biblical literalism... anything else it, well... hypocritical.

Yet, some of my fellow Christians with this obvious plank in their own eye continue to throw stones at other "sinners" separating them from the Christian fold. How can they be so disgusted by alternative lifestyles and differences in gender love preferences and yet not disgusted by themselves?

Ahhh! Perhaps therein lies the answer! Perhaps we are so disgusted by ourselves that we find comfort, false pride and confidence by pointing out the weaknesses, sins and shortcoming of others. We feel as if we point to the flame of sin in someone else's life we can avert their eyes from the fire of sin in our own lives! Except it doesn't work. Our God, and consequently our religion, is then exposed of it's hypocrisy & lack of love... thereby misrepresenting Jesus and His message of salvation and hope. It is my prayer that my fellow Christ followers and I will focus on our own planks and stop looking at the "sin" of others unless our own eyes are 100% plank-free and our vision has been restored and leave the judging to God... whose vision is perfect.

A Special thank you to the link below for inspiring me to speak out against the hypocrisy of so many of us in the Christian Church...

Judge Me... And I'll (try not to) Judge You Back!

Yes, it's true... I'll have you know I've got tons of experience in this area... from judging to being judged, I've got this blog topic covered! Go ahead... judge me... but if you judge me, I'll likely just judge you right back! I'm not proud of it, but it's true... you judge ME & I'll judge YOU for being judgmental (if nothing else). ;)

This was an uncomfortable realization that occurred recently when I I felt attacked, judged and misunderstood as I posted some of my Spiritual beliefs on my personal Facebook page. I was upset at how my friends could be so mean and so judgmental! How could they be so haughty and small minded? What is wrong with people?! Then I felt the spiritual tap on my shoulder, looked around in the mirror and realized what I was doing in return. Sigh. I shook my head at myself... suddenly humbled at the knowledge I was no better than they.

I confess this because... I believe it is one of my main stumbling blocks to Peace. I've made some small progress in this area, but I have much more work to do before I can leave the painful consequences of judgemental-ism behind. I'm working on it... but it's such a hard habit to let go!

I've come to realize how we judge others often has more to do about ourselves and our fears than anything else. Judging in many ways is one of the primary sources of self inflicted pain & isolation! Because no one, except Christ Himself, is without sin... so we should have the utmost empathy and compassion when our brother or sister struggles! This should unite us as children of God, and yet it causes division even amongst believers! Why, oh why do we do it to others... and why does it hurt so much when they do it to us?!

I know, I know...I hear the Fundamentalist voice of objection! "Self-righteous judgement is 'our job' as Christians! We are judging first to help others not be led astray! Our judgements are our warnings! We judge because we love! We know our understanding of God is the right one... 100% Biblically correct... and to think otherwise (insert judgmental tone) is just wrong!" Really? Or are we just justifying our own sin... just as we accuse others of doing the same?

If only I could always remember in the moment of feeling judged that no sin is greater or lesser than any other. I would see my brother or sister as my equal and look at them through God's loving eyes. I would realize others judgement is nothing personal... it's fear in their hearts. And the best way to combat fear is with Love.

Let God be God and have Him do the judging! For only God can convict with absolute Knowledge and Truth! We can care! We can share our own concerns for others... but we are called to do so without condemnation, hypocrisy or arrogance! Love is patient, love is kind... being judgmental is neither of those. The next time I feel judged, God asks me... pleads with me...  and encourages me NOT to judge back... but to Love as He loves me!
